Flat Vs Tilting/Pull Out TV Brackets for your LCD or Plasma TV - Which one is best for you?
Whilst Pull out, Turn and Tilt TV Brackets give you the optimum amount of flexibility and are great when you are viewing the TV from lots of different postions within a room they do have the drawback of being a little more expensive and when pushed back flat to the wall they will never be as flat as a TV bracket that is designed to be "Flat". There is simply too much metal and too many hinges and joints to achieve a "flush finish". So, if you are looking for your TV to be as close to the wall as possible (bearing in mind the need for air circulation around the back of the TV and the need to fix the cables) then you really need to purchase a Flat on the Wall bracket that is specifically designed for the job. The most popular options are the XUF series from Premier Mounts or the LWB1 and PWB1 series from Edbak - these tv brackets will fit your TV from as little as 2.3cm away from the wall (less than one inch) and they are easy to install. Todays' modern LCD and Plasma TV's have a much wider viewing angle so for many rooms and situation at flat bracket is the ideal choice.
If you do want a small amount of "tilt" from your bracket so that you can angle the TV down towards your viewing postion then the XUT Series from Premier Mounts or the LWB2 and PWB2 brackets from Edbak will deliver this but again there is a compromise over the true flat on the wall brackets. Tilting brackets have to create space away from the wall for the bottom of the TV to tilt into and this typically means your TV will hang twice as far away from the wall with a tilting bracket as it would do with a Flat on the Wall TV bracket or mount. Most tilting TV brackets and mounts are around 80mm (or about 3.5 inches) away from the wall. Of course if you do use the tilt feature the bottom of the TV will be pretty close to the wall but the top will be up to 160mm (6inches) away from the wall. But, in some siuations where your viewing angle is low compared to the hight of the TV on the wall, say in a bedroom, a tilting bracket might make sense.
