If you're looking for the maximum flexibility from a TV Bracket then a Cantilever Bracket is the way to go - these brackets allow you mount your TV against the wall but they then give you the capability to pull the TV away from the wall and then turn the TV left and right (and with a tilt down as well if needed).

If you are looking for the optimum amount of flexibilty when you mount your LCD or PLASMA TV then choose a Cantilever Bracket. There are some fantastic models to choose from that suit all budgets, TV sizes and requirements. Whilst a Flat on the Wall TV bracket or TV Mount will hold the TV very tight against the wall the Cantilever Arm style brackets allow you to postion the TV in the corner of a room, to turn and tilt the TV so that it is facing directly at you wherever you are sitting and in most cases they push back reasonably flat against the wall when not in use.
If you are looking to mount your TV in an alcove either side of a Chimney Breast and then want to pull the TV into the room then a cantilver bracket is really the only way to go.
